You will have read or seen the current news stories of the imminent eruption of Mount Agung in North East Bali.
Mount Agung is a volcano that last erupted in 1963. During the last few weeks monitors have noticed an increase in tremors and the indicators look likely for an eruption. The problem is they don’t know when or how big the eruption will be or if at all.
What does this mean for you if you are coming to Bali in the next few weeks, days or months?
The people who live within 9kms of the volcano have been evacuated to places of safety outside of the possible flow of lava. It is a worrying time for them especially if they are farmers or business owners.
Anyone over 9 kms has been advised to get supplies ready. To have masks, eye protection, clothes that cover their body including arms and legs, extra water and food supplies.
The popular tourist destinations, mostly in the Southern part of the Island are predicted to remain largely unaffected. The level as to which they are affected will be dependent on if there is an eruption and which way the wind will blow.
As of today the skies are blue, the airport is open and everyone is going about their business as usual. We have welcomed new guests today at two of our Sanur Villas.
The decision you take to cancel or to proceed with your holiday is a difficult one. If nothing happens and the mountain goes back to sleep then you’ve nothing to fear. Your insurance probably can’t help if you decide to cancel before the eruption occurs. If it does erupt but the airports are safe to stay open and you can fly, again you probably won’t be covered.
