A frequent topic which comes up often in discussion groups and dedicated groups on Facebook is where should we go for dinner in Sanur? Dining out in Bali is a great way to sample local dishes or experience some new twists on dishes you enjoy at home. In this blog you’ll find some of my personal favourites as well as a few other nice restaurants where you can sit back and relax with your feet in the sand.
I’ve listed them by location……
On the Beach, toes in the sand
La Playa – end of Jl Duyung, turn left – extensive local and international menu, very reasonably priced – My favourite Seafood Risotto
Soul on the Beach – Jl Pantai Sindhu – turn right -beautifully decorated, lovely atmosphere, burgers of all descriptions, yummy salads, thin crust pizza, fresh juices and great cocktails. My favourite “It’s all about Zoe” – Tuna salad
Genius Café – Southern Sanur by Mercure Hotel – Wholesome plant-based food, non-vegetarians don’t worry you can add chicken & prawns to the salads, featuring creative juices and healthy (sounding) cocktails, a huge menu – My favourite – Mexican Fajitas
Main Street Jl Danau Tamblingan
Café Batujimbar – The original organic restaurant in Sanur since 1991. Consistently good food served here. A nice balance of Indonesian and Western food, lovely flavours throughout all their dishes. The fish curry is excellent.
Ryoshi – Japanese with an extensive menu and wonderfully fresh Sushi
Massimo – The most famous chef and owner in Sanur, Massimo, he sometimes puts on a magic show… His Italian food is authentic and extremely popular. The pizzas have a gluten free option and the pasta is made by hand in house. The Gelato is sooo good…. It’s sold all day long and there is a constant flow of gelato lovers.
The Glass House – On the corner of our Kejora complex and renowned for its scrumptious cocktails a charming café with great coconut prawns
For a special occasion
3 Monkeys – set in a beautiful bamboo building with an airconditioned room upstairs. Greek, Italian and Asian dishes sit nicely side by side with some blurring in between. I often can’t decide what to order here, so love that they have tapas.
Jl Danau Posso
Warung Blanjong – lovely corner setting, featuring fresh local ingredients for tasty Indonesian food, the only place I’ve had palm heart on top of my Nasi Campur (rice with a selection of meat and vegetables) The beef Rendang is also superb as is the Pepes Ikan.
The Firestation – Australian bistro style – great steaks, burgers and fish dishes and yummy truffle mac and cheese as a bar snack….. pop upstairs to the funky FireFly cocktail bar for a pre-dinner drink– It was love at first sip with their Negroni’s…..
I had to add a number 11 as it’s the newest in town, Puerto 26 – aged beef imported from Argentina located on Jl Sudamala
My stomach is now rumbling, quite loudly, so I’m off…………but to which restaurant? Decisions, Decisions.
All of our Cool Bali – Sanur Villas are in walking distance to one of these fantastic eateries…. So be sure to check out our selection
